Weeks 4-6

Accompaniment: amplifying the voice of Jesus in your curriculum vitae (the course of your life)

The etymology of curriculum vitae (CV) means “the course of one’s life”. A CV should describe the path of life you are on that gives meaning and purpose to your existence. Reading a person’s CV tells their story and allow the reader to anticipate the next steps in their life according to the lived plot-line of their lives. Over the next month, each person will give a narrative of the course of their lives, i.e., tell their story, followed by prayer.  It’s important that everyone is present for each meeting, so please modify your schedules accordingly.

  1. Prepare. On your own, listen to the Kingdom Narratives (Luke 1-2) video. Well before the meeting, spend some time praying about what to share of your family, faith, and professional story that maps out your “life course”. Along the way provide some data points — examples of when you have flourished and when you have felt the most broken.

  2. Invite. Begin by inviting the Holy Spirit to make this a welcoming space to come and be known and loved as a beloved child of God.

  3. Listen. The goal of this time is to listen to the person and to the Holy Spirit in order to discern the narratives that were operative in the course of this friends life. As you listen, the group can ask brief clarifying questions along the way to encourage this friend to tell their story.

    • Can you tell us more?

    • What did you mean by that?

    • How did you arrive at that conclusion?

  4. Summarize. Spend just a few minutes as a group summarizing. Reflect back the story you heard. Share thoughts about key elements of a Kingdom CV in this friends life, i.e., how they are living into the gospel narrative, and moreover, what important role they play in the kingdom of God.

  5. Pray. Lay hands on this brother or sister and pray for them

    • Start by thanking God for this person and the course of their life in the gospel of the kingdom.

    • Pray for Jesus to meet the longing of their hearts in their life story — the longing to make a contribution, for greatness, intimacy without shame, wholeheartedness, beauty or strength, or to be enjoyed by God and others.

    • Pray the blood of Jesus over the broken places, broken relationships, and ask for God’s healing in their lives through the power of the cross and resurrection.

    • Close with a time of blessing.  Bless them as a brother or sister, son or daughter, spouse, disciple, scientist, physician, student, healer, etc.

Alignment: recalibrating our story to the reign of Jesus (On your own):

  • As you prepare for your Hot Seat session listen the video — Life Flourishing Narratives (Luke 1-2)

Agreement: covenanting to walk in the story of Jesus together (5 minutes)

  • Designate the person, time, and place for the next hot seat.

  • Close in agreeing prayer in Jesus’ name.
